My my My my

To our extended hockey family:

We know that tryouts can be a stressful and trying time for families in Rochester. To eliminate any confusion and unnecessary stress, read through the rules below and the overview of the tryout process.

General Rules of Tryouts

  1. Any player that did not play for RYH last season must bring the following paperwork on the first night of tryouts.  If you do not have this paperwork, you will be unable to tryout.
    • Birth Certificate or Passport
    • An Original, signed copy of a release from your 2013-2014 NYSAHA Association (no photocopies accepted)
  2. Any player that owes money to RYH or to their prior year RYH team and/or organization is ineligible to tryout at RYH.
  3. The cost to register $50.
  4. If you are registering online, registration for RYH tryouts must be completed 24 hours before the registrants first scheduled tryout date.
  5. Walk-in registrations will be accepted but are highly discouraged this season. Those not registering and/or paying online can pay the registration fee by cash, money order or check. We will not take credit card payments for walk-ins at tryouts.
  6. The $150 team deposit will not be collected prior to tryouts. The deposit can be paid online after the teams are announced or by check at the first team meeting where families sign their Commitment Letters. Roster spots will not be held if Commitment Letter is not signed or the deposit is not paid full.
  7. The tryout schedule is subject to frequent changes. Please check the RYH website frequently to ensure that you do not miss a critical tryout date or time. Coaching announcements will also be made via the website.
  8. Please plan ahead. If you need a release from your current organization, we highly recommend requesting it early to give your current association time to process your request.

The Tryout Process

  1. If you understand the process and plan ahead, tryouts should be an easy, fun and exciting time for you and your child.
  2. Please check the schedule to determine when and where you need to be for tryouts.
  3. Please arrive at tryouts at least 1 hour before the start of your scheduled tryout.  This will allow for ample time to get checked in.  Also please ensure that your child is well nourished and well rested for tryouts.
  4. At the registration table, your information will be inspected to ensure its completeness and correctness.  Your child will than will be given a jersey, his name and jersey number will be recorded onto a tryout roster used by the coaches conducting the tryouts.  Your child can then go to the assigned dressing rooms and get ready for the tryout.
  5. When you arrive for the 2nd or 3rd night of tryouts, your child will need to check in with the registration table prior to going to the dressing room. This will allow us to ensure that his name and number is logged on the form for that night’s tryout session. If they don’t check in, they will be marked as absent.
  6. Please check the tryouts website frequently. Unfortunately, not every child can be accepted onto a team and there is no easy way to reduce the tryout field to get to the final selections. RYH will update our website each night to reflect any “cuts” that have been made. While this method may seem impersonal, we feel it is a fair and less painful way to inform players who did not make the team than to notify them at the rink.
  7. Please remember that if your child is not selected for a particular team, it is not a reflection on your child, or you. It is simply that the coach felt that there was another player who better fit the team’s needs. In most cases we have several very talented players trying out for the same team and unfortunately, not everyone will make the team.
  8. If your child is not selected on an AAA team, we encourage you to tryout for one of RYH’s competitive AA teams to continue your child’s skill development. If your child is not selected on an RYH AA team, we encourage you to enroll in RYH’s house program where your child will be able to develop their skills, play competitive hockey and possibly have a chance to be an alternate on a AA team.

Financial Responsibility

  1. By registering with RYH you agree to pay, when due, the expenses assessed to each child participating in the programs offered by Rochester Youth Hockey. You understand that registration and player fees for each child are non-refundable in accordance with the operational procedures of RYH. Furthermore, you understand that expenses are accumulated as a result of various activities and financial commitments entered into in good faith by the officers of Rochester Youth Hockey in pursuance of the established organizations purposes. The foregoing financial obligation is entered into freely and with full knowledge that all delinquent accounts shall be enforced.
